Galaxy - Scenes around the ship and Cruise Friends : We sailed on the Celebrity Galaxy sailing of 3-29-08 from San Juan with port stops at Tortola, St. Maarten, St. Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Curacao and Aruba. We met up with some friends, Mike and Mary, from California, who we met on prior cruises and also had fun meeting and hanging out with new cruise friends we met through the Roll Call forums on Cruisecritic.ocm. We had a Sky Suite, cabin 1232 on the Galaxy.

San Juan Before and After Our Cruise : We spent a night in San Juan at the Hotel Milano before our cruise. We met up with Mike and Mary (old cruise friends) there and toured Old San Juan a bit before our cruise.

Tortola - Cane Garden and Brewer's Beaches And St. Maarten : In Tortola we hired a taxi for the day to take us to Brewer's Bay Beach and to Can Garden Bay Beach as well as some sights along the way. Our plan was to do some snorkeling at Brewer's Bay, known for calm waters and wonderful snorkeling, but conditions were not good due to heavy surfs there in prior days. We spent a short time at Brewers Bay before heading to the busier Cane Garden Bay for lunch at Myetts. We still had a wonderful time and discovered Tortola Pain Killers - a wonderful rum drink.

St. Lucia - Cosol's Island Tour : At St. Lucia we took an all day tour, with many of our Cruise Critic friends from the Galaxy, with Cosol. http://www.cosol-tours.com/ Cosol came highly recommended from past reviews on the Cruise Critic message boards and we had a wonderful time on his tour. We toured various spots in St. Lucia, sampled lots of local foods and spent an hour or two at the beautiful Hilton Jalousie Beach, at the base of the Piton mountains, doing a little snorkeling. I'd highly recommend Cosol's tours for a nice day exploring St. Lucia

Barbados and Day Sail on the Silver Moon II : At Barbados we did one of our all time favorite excursions: a day sail on the Silver Moon. This year we went on the Silver Moon II along with many of the people from our Cruise Critic roll call group who had also booked this day sail. This was our third time on the Silver Moon trip which we always enjoy. The snorkeling wasn't the best we've seen - depends a bit on how still the water's been in prior days, but was still very good. On the Silver Moon tour you travel with a small group (12) on a luxurious catamaran with stops to swim with the Sea Turtles and snorkel. Then they anchor off a beautiful spot on the west coast of Barbados for a couple hours to enjoy lunch and swim. Lunch is a small buffet which varies a little, but always includes some Flying Fish - a great local dish. This Silver Moon trip was crewed by Tony and Ben, who we've sailed with before, and they did a great job sailing the boat while they took good care of us, guided us on our turtle swim and snorkeling, fed us and provided a steady stream of wonderful rum punch and other drinks.

Grenada - day at Magazine Beach and the Aquarium Restaurant : At Grenada we returned to the quiet and wonderful Magazine Beach. We hung out at the beach's only public facility, the Aquarium Restaurant. A nice open air restaurant that serves some local dishes as well as sandwiches and drinks. It is a nice clean establishment with good island service and great views. There was someone in front renting beach chairs and a limited amount of snorkeling gear (better to bring your own) as a small number of vendors selling spice necklaces and other items strolling the beach.

Curacao and Beach Day at Playa Porto Mari : At Curacao we went to Playa Port Mari. This was a wonderful beach with full facilities. We worried a bit when we left the ship as it was windy, the seas were a little wavy, and it looked a bit stormy. But at Playa Porto Mari the Sky was clear and the protected waters were perfect for snorkeling. The snorkeling was a little deep - fine to see lots of sea life and probably good for diving as well. A wonderful spot. Our only mistake was telling the cab driver to pick us up mid afternoon to we'd have time to tour the downtown area. Next time we'll stay here as long as possible and skip downtown Willemstad!
